Narrative description of Project:

 

  • Sector-wide assessment and preparation of policy recommendation. 
  • Development of policy guidance for DFID and its key development partners in the host countries.

Description of actual services provided in the assignment:

Sector-wide assessment and preparation of policy recommendations on how governments, communities and donors could better support non-state provision of basic services, particularly for the poor.  The study was prepared with contributions from senior staff member at the Water, Engineering and Development Centre of the University of Loughborough, UK.  The outputs are expected to contribute to the development of policy guidance for DFID and its key development partners in the host countries. The task carried out involved literature review, extensive field visits and meetings with key state and non-state service providers, identification of core issues and the preparation of a country case study for Pakistan. The study findings and policy recommendations were expected to be shared in an international workshop planned in Dubai in early 2005.
