Narrative description of project:
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) -herein referred to as the Client – is seeking a consulting firm to migrate an existing database (developed in MS SQL) to PostgreSQL. The client seeks to complete this assignment over 4 calendar months. From the terms of reference, as published in the advertisement by the client, it is the understanding of M/S Associates in Development – herein referred to as the Consultant – that the migration is to include migrating and where necessary recoding various scripts which have been developed in different programming languages e.g. python, C#. The consultants understand that the scope of work includes but is not limited to migrating the database and applications to government-owned and managed data servers, which will require proactive coordination with the Irrigation Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and the KP Data Center of the Science & Technology and Information Technology Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Description of actual services provided in the assignment:
During Inception phase the team lead/full-stack software developer will lead a review of the existing databases and obtain source code for any/all scripts. The Coordinator will liaise with the client and/or Government agencies to obtain all necessary credentials to access the existing databases. The review will examine the software used to house the databases and recommend updates/alternatives where required, the review will examine and document the functionality of all key aspects of the existing databases to ensure these are reproduced in the migrated database. 11. In this development phase the Consultant will of course start by making backups of all databases and source code. The databases will be restored on local and/or cloud database servers. The Inception Phase will identify what if any updates to the PostgreSQL are needed and/or if adequate user credentials and privileges for the development under this assignment are available.
Any work required on the PostgreSQL server if identified in the Inception Phase will be prioritized. This is to ensure that the outages and disruptions for the Government agencies are kept to a minimum. 20. The Consultant will develop appropriate tests for create-update-read-delete for each/all database tables and validate and verify that users with appropriate credentials and permissions can perform CRUD operations. 24. The Consultant will update any/all manuals to reflect all the changes that have been incorporated in the User Interface after integration with data from Indus Telemetry (PostgreSQL). Any/all sections of the existing user manual will be updated. The manual shall be updated in Word format and made available in pdf format.
