Project Scope
The World Bank’s primary objective was to carry out a study on the delivery mechanisms being used by cash transfer programmes and assess the extent to which these can be leveraged into offering greater access to financial inclusion and financial literacy in Pakistan. The study aimed to provide insights and recommendations on the current knowledge and use of financial services, the impact of cash transfer payments on the financial inclusion and literacy. The study also looked at the behavior of beneficiary households and how best to leverage these programmes for greater impact on economic growth and poverty reduction.
Services
The survey compared alternate payment mechanisms such as the Pakistan Post Office, ATM cards and the use of mobile phones. The report also made recommendations on where different approaches might be used to enhance financial inclusion and financial literacy of the cash transfer beneficiaries.
AiD assisted World Bank in the quantitative data collection in KP, Balochistan and Punjab. The objective was to carry out a survey and beneficiary assessment using quantitative methodologies. These assessments advised the team on the outcomes and beneficiary perceptions of financial inclusion and literacy outcomes of cash transfers through the Banking system in Pakistan.
