An initiative run by GIZ LoGo program supports partner countries to move towards sustainable development in line with the 2030 Agenda. The objective of this initiative is to improve the enabling environment for financial and non-financial private sector contributions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Within the LoGo program, the new result area ‘Financing Sustainable Development (FSD)’ was established. The new result area FSD focuses its efforts in three areas. Firstly, to support the provincial governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab to each produce a comprehensive assessment of the possibilities for private sector financial participation in the achievement of selected priority SDGs; Secondly, to facilitate the establishment of a semi-annual exchange platform at the provincial level between public and private actors that works on increasing the financial contributions of the private sector for achieving the SDGs; Thirdly, to support the development of a new government-backed incentive mechanism to promote private sector funding for development-related activities or projects in priority SDGs.
Description of actual services provided in the assignment:
AiD assisted GIZ to commission and moderate the workshops with both public and private sector on promoting sustainable tourism in KP and Punjab. AiD identified the relevant stakeholders in both the provinces. The stakeholders, both public and private were selected based on their level of engagement in planning and implementation of SDGs. The identified stakeholders were approved by the ordering party i.e. FSD, LoGo. Then, two workshops were conducted (one workshop each in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) with particular focus on bringing the public and private sector together to bridge the gap between the two sectors and to eventually achieve the SDG agenda 2030. AiD conducted trainings with the public sector and private sector with focus on SDG implementation processes, how the SDGS can be implemented at local level and how the private sector can contribute towards SDGs at local level. AiD also developed case studies as knowledge products regarding the contributions by private sector towards achieving SDG agenda 2030 in selected districts of Punjab (Soan Valley) and KP ( Kumrat Valley).
