Narrative description of Project:
Pakistan signed the international agreement on the 2030 agenda in September 2015 during the United
Nations General Assembly Session for sustainable development. A set of 17 SDGs were committed to be achieved between 2016 and 2030 which aim to end poverty, hunger and inequality, take action on climate change and the environment, improve access and quality to health and education, build strong institutions and partnerships, and more. The Planning Commission of Pakistan in support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) resultantly developed the National Framework for SDGs under which the baseline for 17 goals, 169 targets and 242 indicators were prepared and prioritized according to short- term, medium-term and long-term perspectives. Pakistan has proactively started to localize SDGs with the SDGs Unit being set up in the Planning Commission at federal level and provincial SDGs Support Units in each provincial Planning & Development Department.
Description of actual services provided in the assignment:
Under supervision of Project Manager, SDGs Support Unit, Sindh; AiD team has developed a comprehensive SDGs Framework for Sindh by analysing existing government legislations, laws, plans, policies and strategies, as well as existing baseline data to establish SDGs priority targets matrix to achieve agenda 2030. More specifically, the SDGs framework established provincial baselines, localized provincial targets, identified priorities based on selection of methodology, and developed an implementation mechanism for mainstreaming for the achievement of SDGs in the provincial planning process.
