AiD has assisted Urban Unit (UU) for the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the Punjab Spatial Strategy (PSS). The objective of assignment was to undertake SEA so that environmental, climate change and socio-economic factors, along with gender aspects, are appropriately integrated and main streamed in the Punjab Spatial Strategy as to achieve Punjab’s development agenda in a sustainable manner. The scope of work included development of a comprehensive SEA framework with detailed methodology to carry out SEA of the Punjab Spatial Strategy. The second task, involved in the SEA study was the Development of an Environmental Baseline Study by collecting baseline information including physical, biological, socio-economic, cultural and archaeological aspects of the areas of spatial location identified in maps. Moreover, Strategic Impact Assessment was done through the environmental and climate change factors that can affect (positively or negatively), their relevance, impact, and any mitigation measures, are identified and assessed. As a part of impact assessment, Climate Change modelling for various scenarios (e.g. IPCC) was done and the Stakeholder Consultation and Implementation & Monitoring Plan.
