Narrative description of Project:
The feasibility study stage of the Malakand Rural Development Project, to be implemented in the selected areas of Malakand Division, was funded by ADB through a technical assistance program (ADB TA No. 2604-PAK) to the Government of NWFP. MRDP is a community based rural development project that aims at poverty reduction, income enhancement, and improving the living standards of the rural population in the project areas. These objectives are proposed to be met through various measures including:
- Improvement/development of physical infrastructure including Farm to Market Roads, Irrigation and Water Supply, Sanitation and Drainage, and Micro-hydal Power Generation. The specific projects in each area will be developed with the community involvement using participatory approaches.
- Formulation of project packages to improve on-farm and off-farm incomes in Agriculture, Forestry, Farming, and Livestock & Dairy development.
- Improvement in the nutritional & health status of the population and the women’s literacy levels.
- Establishment, promotion, and strengthening of village-based community organisations and enhancement of their capacity to plan/implement the development activities and operate and maintain the completed schemes.
Description of actual services provided in the assignment:
AID provided inputs in the design/development of project packages for improvement and development of rural infrastructure components including Farm to Market roads, Irrigation and Water Supply, Sanitation & Drainage, and Micro-hydal power generation.
